Young V&A (formerly V&A Museum of Childhood) opened in 1872 as the Bethnal Green Museum, East London’s first ever Museum, and embedded itself at the heart of the local community. Over 150 years later, the Grade II* listed site in Bethnal Green has been radically rejuvenated to become Young V&A, a vibrant museum treasured by visitors of all ages.

Young V&A now has more to offer than ever, with brand new galleries full of nostalgia and creativity and a programme of exciting temporary exhibitions.
The iconic building that houses this refreshed museum once formed the basis of the V&A South Kensington; its beautiful iron structure, affectionately known as the ‘Brompton Boilers’, is steeped in V&A history as the foundation of both its London museums. Over time this simple iron framework has been developed and shaped by many different people, ranging from the women of the South Kensington mosaics class who helped decorate the building’s exterior, to the Prince and Princess of Wales who opened the Museum in 1872.

Now clad in red brick and charming mosaic murals, Young V&A has become a beautiful and instantly recognisable cornerstone of London’s dynamic East End.
